The kazoo first sprang to life in the 1840s, when inventor John McCullough added a buzzing membrane to a simple African mirliton design—creating a playful, accessible instrument that’s delighted generations. In 1985, sasi, Inc. embraced that spirit by founding The Original Kazoo Company as part of its vocational mission for adults with disabilities. What began as a modest workshop teaching basic woodworking and metalworking has flourished into a full-fledged social enterprise: today over 30 talented artisans with disabilities hand‑assemble, hand‑finish, and individually inspect every kazoo.
At sasi, our mission is to empower these makers through comprehensive training—from design and fabrication to quality control—so they gain real‑world skills, build confidence, and earn meaningful wages.
